The Preshal Trust Paisley

The Preshal Trust Paisley cooking programme

A renewed grant allowed The Preshal Trust Paisley to offer another tutor-led twelve week cooking program which concluded on 17th April. Participants learned how to make a wide variety of dishes making use of new digital scales, pans, hand mixers, utensils, sieves and baking trays.

The programme led to clear benefits:

  • Self-reliance: Participants became more independent in meal planning and cooking.
  • Practical skills: Attendees gained experience with various methods and ingredients.
  • Wellbeing: Regular activity boosted confidence and improved eating habits.
  • Social engagement: The group fostered trust, conversation, and support.

Participants:

  • Appreciated the hands-on format
  • Liked that recipes were affordable and simple
  • Found the recipe booklet useful
  • Felt accomplished and valued recognition at course completion

Feedback from an attendee:

Started the programme with minimal cooking experience and mainly ate ready meals. Over the sessions they became increasingly involved, regularly cooking meals at home and feeling a sense of accomplishment in making food from scratch.

Attending these sessions brought them routine and connection, an interest in further training and considering volunteering to support future sessions.

This funding enabled participants to build vital life skills, improved their well-being, and forged positive social bonds through cooking sessions.
